Summary/Abstract: This study aims to give a synthetic picture of how drugs have appeared and been used throughout history. We also tried to show, in the contemporary period, what is the impact of the „drug industry” on the society in which we live.History shows that our relationship with drugs is more complex than the paradigm of the laboratory rat that is trained to administer cocaine. In most cases, people are actively looking for addictive drugs. History also illustrates that our relationship with substances is shaped by many factors, including cultures, social or religious. Addictive behavior results from the „conjunction” of a substance with a person. Addiction is not directly about the use of a substance but how a person uses that substance. In other words, the sentence is not only about marijuana drink or cigarettes but also about the drinker and smoker. The first information on drug imports in Romanian countries comes from the documents of the first half of the 16th century and the first legal regulation of illicit drug use will take place with the advent of the Organic Regulations in 1830. The first regulation on drug sales in Romania will be adopted in 1900. In 1933, our country will accede to the Geneva Convention in 1931 on the limitation of the manufacture and regulation of the distribution of narcotics. Currently, the fight against illicit drug use is regulated according to the legislation published in 2000 that sanctions both drug trafficking and drug use.
