Summary/Abstract: The texts of two Slavic compilations published by us contain direct and indirect borrowing from to the well-known Confession of Michael Synkellos of Jerusalem. In their content and structure, they are close to the anti-heretical cycle of confessions in the chronicle story of the baptism of Vladimir Svyatoslavich. The authors and editors of the compilations knew the text of Synkellos’s confession in its “homoiousios” version, which is also read in abbreviated form in the chronicle. The history of these confessions-interpretations is due to the struggle and polemics of the medieval Church with the heterodox views that existed in the Slavic lands during the period of their Christianization. The editorial changes made to the texts of Obraz sviatoy very and Izlozhenie vkrattse Ioanna Filosofa were aimed at clarifying (and correcting) the theological ideas inherent in the theologically ambiguous version of Confession of Synkellos. At the same time, in their work, they also turned to the orthodox versions of the Slavic translation of this text. The compilers of the compilations were guided by a church-liturgical canon of personal confession, which included the Niceo-Constantinople creed, the text of Michael Synkellos and the confession of the Ecumenical Councils.
