Summary/Abstract: Economically, Galicia was one of the poorest regions in the Habsburg monarchy. A strong position was taken by the Polish landed gentry living among the Ukrainian peasantry. Economic factors and national tensions resulted in political conflicts. The paper presents the position of the Eastern Galician conservatives (podolacy) towards agricultural strikes in 1902. Their consequence was bringing Eastern Galician conservatives closer to the politicians of national democracy. Given the radicalization of the attitudes of the Ukrainian side, the national conflict in Eastern Galicia proved inevitable, in which the Poles guarded the Polish national interest.
