Summary/Abstract: The article presents a few comments referring to the phenomenon of the individual in the Polish society of the Polish People’s Republic (up to the beginning of the 1980s), “inscribed” into specific mechanisms and structures. The tangle of interests that existed between the communist authorities and the nationalized society did not have, if we take into account the distribution of personal interests, something particularly conflictual. The economic privileges associated with occupying high positions generally included quite a small group of people and were – at least in a sense – “masked” under the influence of the official communist ideology. From the point of view of an “ordinary” citizen, a particular individual, different types of more or less disguised operations were more important, in which specific benefits could be achieved due to the “operation” of allocating specific resources at the subordinate, central levels. This “operation” was closely related to various, informal agreements, arrangements within which empathy and understanding for the needs of others could arise.
