The activity of the Union of Architects of the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic

Summary/Abstract: The Union of Architects of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Moldova unified the specialists in the field and was the centre of polarization of the socialist architectural-urban ideas. The design activity of the members of the Union of Architects was formed by the central power and depended on the political decisions of the state. The creativity of the architects was constantly coordinated, verified, sustained and criticized in the Congresses of architects, where political leaders participated. Decision-making power is outlined both in solving major issues and in the smallest details. Nevertheless, all these did not prevent the increase of the members of the Union of Architects, although the professional identity of many creative people was destroyed.
