Summary/Abstract: The image we have today of the Samnites, italic population that fought in Rome for the dominion of central-southern Italy between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC, is still in many respects clouded by the blind reliance on Greek and Latin historical sources. Geographically, Molise is the region that was at the center of the territory occupied by the Samnite tribes. The materials and archaeological contexts that can give a more objective overview, for its quantity and quality of the data, are, for Molise region, the necropolis. This work presents a first synthesis of the published funerary contexts and those exhibited at the Samnite Museum in Campobasso, in order to get an idea of the peculiarities of the Samnites before the massive introduction of materials and uses by the Greek-Roman world (4th - 3rd centuries BC). It will thus be possible to understand the original peculiarities of the Samnites and deny some views that the classical historical sources give us.
