Summary/Abstract: Archives of Silesian Music Culture alongside the Library of the Academy of Music Karol Szymanowski in Katowice was founded in 1968, in order to fill the void concerning documentation of old and contemporary musical culture of the region of Silesia. It aims at gathering, compiling and making manuscripts and musical prints available to scholars and students. The very existence of the Archive contributed to enriching our awareness of the past of the musical life of Silesia region. The ever-growing collection of the Archive might be easily used by music institutions, artists as well as all those who have academic interest in the field of musical culture of this geographically diverse region. The article presents the history of the creation of this place, the specifics of the collection and presents plans for the future that will allow the Archive to appear in the minds of not only the nearest region or country, but also on the international arena.
