Compositional and stylistic valences in the Moldavian engraving realized by the intaglio printing method in the last decades of the 20th century

Summary/Abstract: The evolution of easel graphics in Moldova in the last decades of the 20th century represents a significant step in terms of the emergence and promotion of new acceptance of the interpretation of the artistic form and content. This period is distinguished by the development of thematic approaches and compositional solutions of subjects, including those of postmodernist vision, reflected, towards the end of the century, in symbolism, nonfigurative or abstractionism. A special interest presents the intaglio engraving, which is also diverse as a figuration technology, and as a compositional-artistic solution of the topics addressed. The language of the visual means of the works is also revealed, which is increasingly distancing itself from the realistic representation of the plastic space and attesting to an unconventional way of technological interpretation, often an experimental, mixed one, suitable for abstract reduction and encryption of the artistic image. The present paper represents an incursion into the study of the most relevant stylistic and compositional valences of the Moldavian engraving, achieved by the intaglio printing method in the last two decades of the 20th century. The analysis of the most important contributions of the graphic artists was carried out taking into account the temporary, thematic, technological criteria, the type of compositional structure and manner of graphic treatment of the artistic image.
