Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to characterize spatial conflicts and the role of social consultation and participation processes in resolving these disputes. At the beginning of the article we present the concept of spatial conflict. We present its specificity by briefly describing several examples of conflicts over public space that have emerged in Poland in recent years. Next, we present the idea of social consultations and their institutional and legal legitimacy in the context of conducting spatial policy in Poland. The article ends with an analysis of the role of social consultations and participatory processes in resolving disputes about public space. We focus on the data collected during the evaluation of the „Space for Participation” project. In the text we refer to the opinions of the participants of this project, which allowed us to better answer the question whether these mechanisms can help in solving spatial conflicts.
