Summary/Abstract: The study stresses some key aspects referring to the importance played by the cultural elements of the Romanian modern nation-building process. It is a case study on the Romanians from Transylvania with a special focus upon the manners in which the elites used the Italian model in order to construct their own national discourse. The Italian model was a favored one, being closer to the Romanians’ one, as Italians were also in a similar historical phase of creating and affirming the nation, both at a cultural and political level.
