The Phraseology in Hektorović's Poem "Ribanje i ribarsko prigovaranje"

Summary/Abstract: In his poem "Ribanje i ribarsko prigovaranje" ("Fishing and Fishermen's Conversation", 1556) the Croatian poet Petar Hektorović (1487-1572) describes his 3-day voyage in the Adriatic sea, the joys of fishing, his conversations with two fishermen and other details of the sailing, as well as his own meditations. The author uses phraseology that harmonizes with the subject and the spirit of the poem: it is not complicated and — if we exclude the religious phrases in the author's meditations — it is mostly neutral or colloquial, deprived of elevated stylistic effects.
