Summary/Abstract: This paper analyses the process of leadership focused on instruction and the teaching process, on the curriculum, evaluation of students and teachers, and on their professional development. The principal’s leadership, better known under the name of instructional (teaching) leadership, is presented within the framework of historical development lasting since 1980s. Presented were the basic dimensions of instructional leadership and the appertaining functions. At the end the paper presents the results of investigations carried out in our areas, more exactly in the Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
