Summary/Abstract: The teaching process aimed at stimulation and development of creativity, at fostering of divergent opinion, and at releasing of creative potentials of students is an imperative of modern education. This paper examines the phenomenon of creativity and its position in the educational process with a special emphasis on the consideration of various possibilities of stimulating and developing creativity in teaching natural and social sciences. In this context different methodical procedures for encouraging and developing the creativity in students based on Torrance’s tests and the present-day knowledge of this phenomenon were explained. With such teaching procedures one tries to encourage in students: the anticipation of new ideas and solutions, the discovery of new meanings of data, the development of original models, setting and verification of creative hypotheses, the development of the cognitive divergent style, and openness to new experience. The development of creativity in teaching natural and social sciences has its point of departure in the development of scientific mode of thinking whereby student do not acquire knowledge in a ready-made form but rather on the basis of independent research. In order for this stimulation to be realized, it is necessary to satisfy certain prerequisites related to, first of all, professional training of teachers who would know how to stream students to creative activity.
