Summary/Abstract: The article reconstructs an episode of Romanian critical history, based on findings in Jean Starobinski’s archive, located at the Swiss Literary Archives in Bern. These materials certify Jean Starobinski’s relationship with Romanian translators and critics in the 1970s. Foreign influence is negotiated within Romanian literary criticism through an extensive dialogue with what we call today the “Geneva School”.
