Summary/Abstract: Surah At-Tīn is 95th surah of the Qur’an. It was named after the noun “tīn“mentioned in its first ayah. It contains eight ayahs. Regarding the place where it was revealed, the early commentators differ in their opinions. However the majority of later time’s commentators are of the opinion that it was revealed in Makkah, which, nonetheless, in the opinion of the author of this article is more credible as the content of the surah itself suggests in its favour. Namely, the third ayah of the surah reads: and (by) this secure city* and this city, according to the consensus of mufassirs, is Makkah. Furthermore, the style and the form of expression of this surah also reflects all the characteristics of the Makkan surahs of the early period of the Revelation. The main theme of this surah is twofold: the essence of man and his abilities and limitations and the Last Judgement in Hereafter in the form of reward or punishment. The first five ayahs of the surah relate of the first, that is of man and his prospects and the rest of the surah of the latter.
