Summary/Abstract: Macedonian folk poetry has served to immortalize many important moments in the history of the Macedonian nation. IT songs contain description of the main professions of agriculture and animal husbandry, the major labour processes, various crafts, immigration as an important societal factor in the past, folk mythology and beliefs, rituals, as well as family, romantic and many other relations. However, Macedonian folk poetry derives its greatest inspiration, even reverence, from the name of Macedonia. During the many centuries of enslavement, the Macedonian people have held to its name as its greatest, if not its only treasure, something they considered sacred, a name to identify with and even die for.
