The Law of God and the Potential of Man: Towards the Theologico-Political Problem

Summary/Abstract: The article briefly concerns the foundation of the „theologico-political problem” as it has been identified and depicted by Leo Strauss. What is at stake is the relation between Socratic philosophy and political life that reflects the tension between the unassisted human reason and the claim to obey the authority of God. On such a ground it can also be connected to the question of man’s political potential. With regard to this, two different approaches to Strauss’s legacy are finally taken into consideration: The first one represented by Heinrich Meier and the second one represented by Leora Banitzky.
