THE HONEY FROM LALIĆ’S VINEYARD

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this work is to present the most significant features of the modernist poet Ivan V. Lalić’s works, viewed from the aspect of the holy tradition. A comparative analysis of Lalić’s works and the Bible, the most important books of all, will be done in orderto discuss the similarities and bonds between the motives of the bee, the honey, the honeycomb and the vineyard, with a special focus on Lalilć’s collection of songs named Times,Fires, Gardens and as a part of those also on the cycle of poems named Melissa, althoughthe beauty of the mentioned poems exists also partly due to the collection of songs namedThe Passionate Measure and Acts of Love or Byzantium. Furthermore, the intertextuality itself and the poetic cyclization processes will be mentioned, as well as the works oftranslation which are essential elements of his poetry. The above-mentioned entities alsoindicate the distinction of his poetic opus which is reflected through concision of certainideas derived from traditional and spiritual beliefs. The comparative method has demonstrated the fact that lots of those who have done research on Lalić’s works have reachedthe agreement that he was the one to introduce the isychastic modernism into Serbian poetry, which could be the center of Lalić’s being both from the poetical and spiritual pointof view.
