Summary/Abstract: Safety is one of the basic needs of every human being and individual security is ensured by exogenous and endogenous factors. The purpose of this article is to show the exogenous determinants of individual security on the basis of the example of a Syrian refugee in Lebanon. With regard to external determinants, the activities of state institutions and non-governmental organisations will be presented. The results of the research indicate that the real help in providing security for Syrian refugees in Lebanon results from the activities of non-governmental organisations.
