Summary/Abstract: The book is a popular science dictionary of the names of the most important public space features of present-day Poznań: districts, parks, streets, housing estates and squares, institutions, hotels, restaurants, pharmacies, hospitals, cinemas, theaters, churches, buildings, cemeteries, bridges, rivers and lakes. Among them are both historical and contemporary names, and alongside the official names there are also colloquial ones used only by the inhabitants of Poznań. The author explains their origins, the most important linguistic processes that led to their creation, the reasons for the changes that they have undergone throughout history, their declension patterns, structurally similar types of names of other urban features, similarities and differences between the names from other parts of the country, trends in the formation of the most recent names. At the same time, she emphasizes their universal dimension. These features reflect the spirit of their creators. They act as a kind of magnifying glass through which the inhabitants of Poznań looked at the world around them. The book explains the relationship of individual names with the topography of the city, as well as with historical, social and cultural circumstances. Since the publication takes the form of a nest dictionary, within each headword there is a discussion of other names related to the headword thematically, linguistically, and in terms of the time of coining and location.
