- Summary/Abstract:The New Classics of Europe Festival has been organised since 2010 at the Stefan Jaracz Theatre in Lodz. The author presents history of the event from its inception through four subsequent editions. Some of the considerations are devoted to the idea and assumptions of the festival, as indicated by the program texts of its curator, Roman Pawłowski. The biennial event presents performances based on classical works, both ancient and new to the classical canon, representing various literary forms and genres. The curator is responsible for the selection of performances, inviting well-known theatre companies from all over Europe and profiling subsequent editions. The second part of the article is devoted to organisational problems related to the festival. Despite the attractive repertoire and the presence of outstanding theatrical artists, difficulties in attracting viewers are visible. The author looks for the causes of these problems, pointing to, inter alia, to ineffective promotion of the event and randomness of marketing activities. This affects not only the attendance, but also lowers the rank and range of the festival. The advantages of the event, related to the ambitious repertoire, the presence of respected artists and the high artistic level, show the huge, though unused, potential of the event. The analysis of organisational irregularities makes it possible to formulate postulates regarding the need to refine the festival’s formula, plan coherent promotional activities and further efforts to attract a permanent audience.

- Author(s):Nena Stańczuk
- Language:Polish
- Subject(s):Theatre, Dance, Performing Arts, Fine Arts / Performing Arts, Theology and Religion
- Page Range:247-268
- No. of Pages:22
- Keywords:Lodz theater festivals for children and youth
- Summary/Abstract:The aim of the article is to list the festivals for children and youth on the Lodz festival map. Due to the pioneering nature of the monograph, this article is only a general outline of the issues of festivals for children and youth. It also indicates the most important festivals dedicated to minors, focuses on individual elements that characterize and differentiate these festivals. In her analysis, the author included both festivals dedicated to children and youth, as well as those co-created by them. These were: The Carousel International Theater Festival, DZIATWA National Festival of Children’s Theaters, CENTRUM Youth Theater Confrontations, Confrontations of Children’s Theaters KONFRONTACJE and the Henryk Ryl Pre-School Theaters Festival. In the discussion of individual theater festivals, the author deliberately refrained from indicating examples of projects in order to avoid comparing these projects in terms of artistic quality, guided by the principle that in the case of underage audiences and creators it is an extremely controversial issue that cannot be measured in terms of qualitative or quantitative research. The article deals with the need to create and improve festivals for children and youth, and the need for additional animation and educational activities to support festivals.

- Subject(s):Theatre, Dance, Performing Arts, Fine Arts / Performing Arts
- Page Range:269-286
- No. of Pages:18
- Keywords:theatre; blind; spectacle; premiere; audio descriptio
- Summary/Abstract:One of the most numerous groups in Poland, with almost a hundred thousand people, whose access to art has been difficult or limited over the years, are undoubtedly people with visual impairments. There is no need to convince anyone that participation in artistic events has an extraordinary power to connect people, develop their creativity and that it teaches openness to others. Similarly, there is no dispute about the beneficial influence of art to the process of rehabilitation and revalidation of people with disabilities. Nevertheless, blind people are still forced to stand up for equal rights in cultural institutions. Looking at this issue, we can easily see that people with poor eyesight and blind in Poland gained access to the world of theatre and film only at the beginning of the new century. In November 2006, the first Polish film screening with audio description delivered live by a voice-over was organized. A year later the first Polish theatre performance with audio description was held. The article is devoted to the blind in the world of spectacles, discussing the problem in the context of the project unique in Europe – The Reading Theatre for people with poor eyesight and blind, implemented for over a decade by Powszechny Theatre in Łódź. The textpresents the characteristics of the project, its original form, as well as a detailed description of sample premieres realized as part of the series, statements by the creators and its originator – director Ewa Pilawska.
