Summary/Abstract: The monograph considers colour naming in modern Bulgarian in all its possible aspects. The author's inquiries focus on the origins of individual names, and then analyze their contribution to the formation of antonyms, toponyms, chrematonyms and phytonyms. She also presents that part of phraseology whose important component from the point of view of semantics are the names of colours. The linguistic analysis is complemented by a presentation of the names of colours preserved in texts important from the point of view of the history of the Bulgarian language and in folk creativity, as well as a study of the connotations which the names of colours evoke, i.e. the establishment of their symbolic meaning.
