Summary/Abstract: This is the first book, devoted to the life, activities and tragic fate of Oleksandr Shumskyi (1890-1946). The former socialist-revolutionist, later the leader of the “Borotbists” party, and then a member of the Bolshevik party, People's Commissar of Education in 1919 and 1924-1927, he remained a Ukrainian patriot, and often went “against the flow” of official policy. It is not uncommon for the communist regime to have made it, quite by the definition of his contemporaries, rather non-human: at first, O. Shumsky was sent for a ten-year exile, and then he was brutally murdered. The publication contains unique documents of the communist secret services, as well as the other archival documents never published. The book is intended for a wide range of readers.
