Summary/Abstract: The coronavirus pandemic has caused significant changes to societies around the world. One such change deals with the privacy of user-generated data on the Internet. So far, this topic has been a margin of the debate on the problems related to the wider use of the Internet at work or in everyday life. There were phenomena aimed at introducing rules governing how to collect data about Internet users, but the effectiveness of these solutions is debatable. The necessity to transfer most of the daily activities to the Internet increased the interest in the problem of protecting privacy on the Internet, and commercial entities, so far reluctant to discuss this subject, began to introduce user-friendly solutions.

The article consists of four parts. The first examinesthe changes in relations between civilian and military institutions and the role and positionof the armed forces in Latin American countries during the period of democratic transition. In the second, the author reviewed the evolution of civil-military relations in thefirst two decades of the 21st century, revealing new forms of militarism. The third partof the text examines the state of civil-military relations in the 21st century in the context ofthe crisis of democracy and the wave of social protests. In the fourth part, the author analyzedthe ways and scope of using the armed forces in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemicand the effects of the militarization of public policy on Latin American democracies.

- Summary/Abstract:The aim of this article is to analyze the two most volatile periods in Syria – both in thepolitical and social context – in the 21st century. The priority was placed on presentingthe problem in the perspective of the terrorist activities of the Islamic State. Therefore, thefirst period corresponds to the beginnings of the ISI (Islamic State of Iraq) in Syria after2011 (which was also the background to the bloody political events related to the civilwar), while the second part is an analysis of the political background in Syria during thepandemic COVID-19, when Islamic State was once again playing a key role as a significantthreat to the Bashar al-Assad government. Thus, it was necessary, above all, to indicate thechanges, goals and tactics of the jihadists in the years 2020–2022 in comparison with theirmost intense period of activity in Syria during the civil war (2011–2014).

- Summary/Abstract:The purpose of the chapter is to examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the problem of labor shortage in Japan, in particular on the effectiveness of the government’s strategy of attracting and integrating foreign labor. The text is part of the research on the effectiveness of political institutions and legal solutions in crisis situations. An analysis of the content of media articles and statements by Japanese politicians indicates an increase in anti-immigration sentiment among the Japanese society of representatives of decision-making circles. The pandemic undermined the assumptions of the short-term migration policy and showed the weakness of the new migration system, the assumptions of which do not meet the needs of migrants in a crisis situation.

This text is an attempt to assess the economic prosperity of Poland and Hungary during the governments of United Right and Fidesz-KDNP coalition taking into account COVID-19 pandemic time. The goal was verified using four key economic indicators obtained from the IMF’s World Economic Outlook database. - Summary/Abstract:This paper examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the situation of women in science. The desk research method was used to analyse global and domestic data on the professional activity of women in higher education institutions. The investigation focuses on four critical areas of academic work: reconciling work and family responsibilities, the problem of research productivity during the pandemic, research collaborations, mentoring and informal networks, mental health and well-being. The results of the study prove the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the career development of female academics. The social crisis it triggered not only perpetuates the gender inequalities that had already existed in academia but also causes long-term adverse implications for the engagement, experience, and retention of female researchers. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the situation of women in academia has become less predictable and more challenging than before its outbreak.

- Summary/Abstract:The reality of the pandemic has changed the social face of Bałuty. Forced isolation meant that residents found the familiar and familiar “tame” space largely altered, without their knowledge or acceptance. At the end of the epidemic, as a result of the war in Ukraine, many refugees arrived in the country, Łódź and Bałuty, changing their familiar and accepted social structure. Male labour immigration changed to refugees of women, children and the elderly, who are “guests” and perhaps permanent residents. These two factors have triggered different reactions and attitudes and forced native residents to make a “reverse” journey, so to speak, to their own neighbourhood or settlement. The author looks at the issue from the position of ethnoscience using both emic (interviews, narrative tradition based on post-memory) and ethical sources (studies).
