Summary/Abstract: The monograph Between Apocalypse and Melancholy. Oles Ulianenko – Writings, Contexts, Memories offers an analysis of selected aspects of the life and prose works of Oles Ulianenko (1962-2010), an outstanding contemporary Ukrainian writer, in the Ukrainian and Bulgarian historical and literary contexts and in the light of the latest literary theories. The monograph was written by scholars from both Poland and Ukraine, including Yaroslav Polishchuk, Marzanna Kuczynska, Oksana Puchonska, Anna Horniatko-Szumilowicz, and Przemyslaw Lis-Markiewicz. The core of the monograph consists of scholarly texts dealing with key aspects of Oles Ulianenko's creative legacy. The monograph also has an appendix containing three memoirs written by Mykhailo Slaboshpytskyi, Pavel Wolwacz and Ihor Ostrowski, translated into Polish. It is worth noting that the latter is being published for the first time. The memoirs paint a portrait of Ulianenko as an unconventional artist, completely devoted to the creative process, and at the same time, as an alienated man entangled in the extremely difficult Ukrainian reality of the late 1980s and early 1990s - a man who till the very end was tormented by deep existential issues and moral dilemmas. Courtesy of Myroslav Slaboshpytskyi, the monograph contains selected photographs of Oles Ulianenko, from his childhood, youth, and adult life, right until his premature death.
