West Malaysia consists of the Malay Peninsula and several small islands around it. Meanwhile, East Malaysia which is 400 miles from the mainland, includes the states of Sabah and Sarawak. Malaysia was established in 1963 with the federation constitution; however, after a while, there was a change in its borders. Singapore, a part of Malaysia since its establishment, became an independent state by separating from Malaysia in 1965.
