Summary/Abstract: Contemporary urban transport policy aims to shape sustainable, intelligent, and resilient transportation systems. Simultaneously, the ubiquitous dominance of personal vehicles as a means of mobility leads to numerous negative consequences such as traffic congestion and air pollution. Municipal authorities must confront these consequences while satisfying the needs of city users in terms of accessibility, reliability, and transportation safety. The main goal of the book is to diagnose the challenges facing modern urban transport policy, identify how transport users perceive these challenges, and explore the corresponding solutions implemented within urban transportation systems. The book consists of 7 chapters, each analyzing the following issues sequentially: traffic congestion; the quality of local public transportation services; determinants of using commuter rail; integration of rail and bicycle transportation in urban areas; implementation of intelligent transportation systems in cities; shared mobility in urban transportation systems; and the development of electromobility. All chapters present the results of research conducted among users of urban transportation systems. This has enabled interesting conclusions to be drawn, ultimately making the book an engaging source of knowledge for local government practitioners, students, and researchers interested in the issues of sustainable urban logistics.

- Summary/Abstract:The chapter: "Perception of Urban Congestion by Residents of Łódź," addresses a crucial issue in the daily functioning of urban areas, namely congestion in transportation networks. The main objective of the chapter is to characterize the adverse phenomenon of congestion and examine how it is perceived by individuals moving within the city of Łódź. The study also aimed to identify the key factors influencing mobility within the city. Identifying ways to mitigate traffic congestion in cities, considering the analysis of its main causes, can serve as a basis for developing improvement plans and inspire initiatives aimed at optimizing the entire transportation system. To achieve the research objective, a quantitative study was conducted using a survey questionnaire, with a total of 120 responses collected. Among the most frequently mentioned causes of traffic congestion, respondents highlighted long-term and poorly organized roadworks. Interestingly, half of the respondents did not pay attention to the issue of single-occupancy car travel. The main consequences of traffic congestion, as identified by the survey participants, include time losses and, from an economic perspective, a decrease in interest in living in the city and unfavorable conditions for business development. The most common demands for improving traffic flow include the construction of infrastructure combined with Intelligent Transportation Systems. The study results reveal a greater inclination towards using individual transportation compared to collective transportation methods.

- Summary/Abstract:Transport has been an inseparable element of human existence since the beginnings of civilization. Currently, we can increasingly observe the direct impact of urban transportation on various aspects of human life. The better it functions, the higher the quality of life for the residents of a given city. Local authorities should ensure the continuous development of public transportation infrastructure and improve the quality of services provided to encourage the population to use public transportation more frequently. The main objective of this chapter is to present transportation solutions in the public transportation system using the example of the city of Piotrków Trybunalski, as well as to assess the level of passenger satisfaction with public transportation services in the city of Piotrków Trybunalski. The chapter presents the transportation solutions implemented in the city of Piotrków Trybunalski and provides the results of a study on the perception of service quality provided by the Municipal Communication Company Ltd. in Piotrków Trybunalski.

- Summary/Abstract:This chapter of the monograph combines theoretical and empirical analysis to investigate the key aspects related to improving the accessibility and competitiveness of agglomeration railways compared to individual transportation. It focuses on selected issues relevant to the topic, with a primary objective of evaluating the current state of the Łódź Agglomeration Railway system and identifying its future prospects. The study aims to determine the advantages and disadvantages of implementing transport services by Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna Sp. z o.o., while identifying potential areas for improvement and recognizing the needs of the company's customers. An anonymous internet survey was used as the research method. The content of this chapter provides important insights that may contribute to further research on the development and significance of agglomeration railways in Łódź.

- Summary/Abstract:The chapter addresses the integration of railway and bicycle transport in agglomerated regions. Integrating public bicycle systems with railways is an effective solution to improve access to railway transport and facilitate eco-friendly transportation. The aim of the chapter is to identify the role of shared micromobility systems, particularly bicycle systems, in increasing access to railway transport. The analysis in the study is conducted using the example of the provincial bicycle system – "Rowerowe Łódzkie," focusing on its use for commuting to Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna (ŁKA) railway stations. The chapter presents the results of a survey conducted among 116 respondents who are users of Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna. The analyses indicate that although respondents positively evaluate the system in terms of its impact on access to ŁKA, they use it to a limited extent. The distribution of bicycle stations suggests that the improvement in this accessibility mainly applies to larger municipalities.

- Summary/Abstract:The chapter addresses the issue of smart transportation systems and solutions in cities. The starting point for the considerations is the concept of a smart city, where one of the proposed directions for city development is a modern, ICT-based transportation system tailored to the expectations of city users. With technological advancements, various modern transportation solutions emerge, including shared mobility. Digital mobility options in cities are faster, safer, more efficient, and environmentally friendly, and importantly, they complement public transportation and serve as an alternative to individual transport. The aim of the chapter was to identify and assess the implementation of smart city principles in the transportation sector in the city of Kielce, as well as to evaluate the satisfaction of residents and city users with intelligent transportation solutions in the form of shared mobility systems available in the city. The chapter presents the results of a survey conducted among 111 individuals. The study indicates that the majority of respondents are satisfied with the available shared mobility options in Kielce. Younger respondents with medium education levels and high digital competencies demonstrate higher levels of satisfaction.

- Keywords:sustainable transport; electromobility; environmental impacts of electric vehicles; demand for electric cars; Poland
- Summary/Abstract:The chapter focuses on the development of electromobility in Poland. It describes the essence of electromobility, conditions of its development, environmental aspects of electric vehicles and limitations of the environmental effect of electromobility. In addition, the demand for this type of cars in Poland was analysed. The main aim of the study, the results of which are presented in this chapter, was to assess the perception of electromobility among Poles and to identify the intention to purchase an electric car. A quantitative research method was used – the survey technique, which was carried out on a sample of 141 people. The results of the survey indicate that respondents mostly (66%) perceive electric cars as environmentally friendly, but they are aware of their limitations in achieving the environmental effect. The majority of respondents are users of internal combustion vehicles, who are most likely to have a negative view of electric cars in terms of purchase and operating costs, insufficient range accompanied by an underdeveloped vehicle charging infrastructure. Electric car owners, on the other hand, emphasise the financial benefits in the form of low running costs, the possibility of free parking in paid parking zones and the environmental benefits (low noise and CO2 emissions). More than 37% of those surveyed expressed a desire to purchase an electric car in the future.
