Summary/Abstract: The present volume, based mostly on the works published in recent years in the Russian Federation, less or not known to the Romanian reader, tries to capture, as far as possible, the main moments that marked the political, economic and social developments in the former Soviet Union from the moment of Gorbachev's election as head of the CPSU CC (March 11, 1985), until the moment of collapse (December 25, 1991).
