Summary/Abstract: The international practice of use of force and non-violent methods for settlement of separatist conflict were studied as well as experience of international formats in the settlement of armed separatist conflicts. The effectiveness of certain methods and ways to counter separatism were analysed. The essence of the separatist conflict in the Donbas as a part of «hybrid» war, which Russian Federation is waging against Ukraine, was defined. The ways to resolve the conflict in Donbas by methods that proved to be effective were proposed. Aimed at specialists in the field of national security, public administration, public officials, scientists and anyone interested in issues of national security.
