Summary/Abstract: The publication analyses the social function of virginity and defloration as an element of creating gender and corporeality, which constitutes female subjectivity and womanhood experience. It comprises in-depth interviews with women, literature models, films, radio broadcasts, advertising campaigns and press articles. It discusses sexuality and corporeality problems, as well as physiology and anatomy of woman’s body and defines how the issue of virginity and defloration serves society as an instrument for controlling women.
