Summary/Abstract: The monograph is concerned with the literature created by women in the Polish inter-uprising period of the 19th century – mostly forgotten today. The sketches included in the book are an important complement to the picture of those times. The author ponders over the unique characteristics of those literary proposals against various tendencies of the era.She points out that their presence in Polish writing seems significant not inasmuch as it has inherent artistic or aesthetic values but because it is a testimony of a cultural partnership. Besides, the reader has a chance to look closer at the figures of women who, countless obstacles notwithstanding, persisted in undertaking creative work. The author is painting their portraits by using scientific tools, but she does it with undeniable passion.
