Summary/Abstract: The aim of the book is to establish the role of temperamental sensitivity to pleasant and unpleasant stimuli in understanding the dynamics of responding to transgressions in romantic relationships. Using the neuropsychological reinforcement sensitivity theory of personality, there have been shown mechanisms of constructive and destructive reaction in the event of a breach of norms regulating mutual exchange by an intimate relationship partner. The analyses have demonstrated that sensitivity to negative stimuli and to motivational conflicts are the risk factors of avoidance and neglect of a romantic partner, and also revealed the mechanisms of this risk (e.g. difficulties in emotional regulation, reduced self-esteem and sensitivity to rewards and punishments in a romantic relationship).
