Summary/Abstract: As part of a more extensive research on the cultural aspects of the translation of folktales, our paper tackles the issue of folktales characters’ names from the perspective of their status as culturemes and translation units. We identify here a series of cultural and linguistic features. Their role is to highlight the full meaning of these names and thus provide a relevant tool both for the translator and the researcher undertaking descriptive translation studies. Our suggested analysis model is completed by examples of translation from Romanian into French.
