Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes the ways of translating New Testament’s cultural realities by Jakub Wujek (and his collaborators) during various stages of preparing the version of the Bible (editions of the "Catholic Postil", 1579–1590, the "New Testament" of 1593 and the "Bible" of 1599). In the first part („Examples”) the author discusses samples of the translation containing cultural realities (such as "sabbatum, Pascha, drachma, paedagogus"), comparing them with other Polish versions of the era. The second part („Tendencies of Acculturation”) interprets different ideas of acculturation as an important part of Polish Jesuits’ different, conflicting strategies for translating the Bible. The interpretation is based on the analysis of historical sources, and places these theoretical programmes in the context of Reformation and Counter-Reformation in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
