Summary/Abstract: From today’s perspective, cryptocurrencies as a new economic instrument seem to be a sign of all but a great revolution on the modern financial market. There are plainly visible growing changes in the fields of capital and funds management and one of the consequences is the ever-rising popularity of cryptocurrencies. The world economy is being increasingly influenced by this new system of circulating funds, based entirely on electronic devices. It also directly impacts the decisions, actions and opportunities of millions of individual investors. These changes can only be compared to such revolutionary past phenomena as the printing of the banknote, the abandonment of the gold standard or the introduction of electronic money in the form of credit cards. The ubiquity of electronic currencies is also undoubtedly related to common and constant access to the internet and to progressing globalization, leading to the conclusion that the cryptocurrency is only a natural consequence of the progress of human civilization.
