Summary/Abstract: This article is devoted to the role of editing in politicians’ television debate, and more specifically to the rhetorical and interactive functions of the participants’ non-verbal reactions and behaviors, shown by the producer in the back channel. Editing is also an object of interest as an expression strategy and rhetorical gesture on the part of the television institution. The analyzed material is the initial fragment of the debate that took place before the second round of the presidential elections in France in 2017 between Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen.
