How Mickiewicz brought out the elements. On the creation of Romanticism in „Ballads and Romances”

Summary/Abstract: The study identifies and describes a somewhat renewed set of themes in Mickiewicz’s ballads (love, death, evil, alienation). Within that scope, the essential features of the early Romantic world are defined. From these themes also emerges a new character of the Romantic life — one that is authentic and serious, sometimes even severe in its laws. The core that constitutes the new Romantic identity is the Romantic axiological framework — created for the first time in the ballads — for which the intensity of the world and the dynamism of the ballad plots provided social acceptance.
