Summary/Abstract: In the essay, I explore a recently published Polish novel, But With Our Dead by Jacek Dehnel, in the context of Romanticism. The novel can be construed as part of a long debate about the presence of Romanticism in contemporary Polish literature and culture. It explores the most recognizable Romantic ideas existent in the present socio-cultural context. Also, it does not steer clear of the less obvious tropes associated with Romanticism, like frenzy or irony.
