Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to present the development of education in the regionof Szarvas, Hungary. The article, therefore, attempts to outline the structure of the educationalsystem and its evolution over the centuries from the historical perspective. It also focuses on theimportance of providing young people with an opportunity to gain knowledge and to appreciateit as in the past it was a luxurious and rare “commodity.”
