Summary/Abstract: The right to higher education? The need for achievement and ambitions? Are questions concerning these basic conditions, which enable people to improve and develop themselves, appropriate for prisoners in particular those sentenced to life-term isolation? What is the purpose of their education? By analysing court and prison records, conducting interviews with prison authorities and interpreting the existing law, the author tries to answer these questions. She concludes that other factors than those officially declared by the state authorities determine the rights of life-term prisoners, which is a loss to them, their families and the society.
