The history of natural science and technology

Summary/Abstract: Along with the effort to give a more complete picture of the evolution of society, there appeared the need to replace the natural sciences and technology in this evolution and to determine their role in it. In Czech historiography, this trend was increasing especially in connection with the recognition of the decisive role of the productive forces in this development. Nevertheless, knowledge of the evolution of the natural sciences and technology is also of interest for these sciences themselves and for the philosophical generalization of their results, thus creating one of the important links between the social and natural sciences. This is why more systematic research was asserted in Czech historiography, especially after 1945, research in which one proceeded from occasional articles to an in-depth study of the material and to the first attempts to draw general conclusions from it in synthetic works. . The research was naturally centered on the study of problems relating to the history of natural sciences and technology in the Czech lands and in Slovakia.
