Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the issue of bilateral relations between Bulgaria and the Republic of Northern Macedonia and especially Bulgaria’s position on the possible membership of our western neighbor in the EU. At present, Bulgaria is blocking the negotiation process due to unresolved historical issues. The relations between the two Balkan countries bring a lot of negatives to everyone and for this reason it is necessary to find a long-term strategic solution that satisfies both countries as soon as possible. The study analyzes the benefits and losses for Bulgaria depending on the chosen position, as well as proposes a slightly different, pan-European consolidated approach, according to which all current EU member states to unite and defend their full membership, thus demonstrating unity.
