Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the results of the second stage of qualitative empirical research devoted to the analysis of the dynamics and course of professional transitions of teachers originally employed in middle schools (gymnasiums) that were closed down. When analyzing the so-called neutral zone experiences, we refer to the concept of possible selves formulated by Hazel Markus and Pauli Nurius (1986) and the concept of provisional selves by Herminia Ibarra (1999), inspired by the former theory. These concepts facilitate the identification of strategies employed by teachers during the process of adaptation to new professional circumstances, as well as searching for one’s identity and for new ways to fulfill professional tasks.
