- Page Range:42-56
- No. of Pages:15
- Keywords:teachers career; professional transitions; possible selves; buffering provisional selves
- Summary/Abstract:This paper presents the results of the second stage of qualitative empirical research devoted to the analysis of the dynamics and course of professional transitions of teachers originally employed in middle schools (gymnasiums) that were closed down. When analyzing the so-called neutral zone experiences, we refer to the concept of possible selves formulated by Hazel Markus and Pauli Nurius (1986) and the concept of provisional selves by Herminia Ibarra (1999), inspired by the former theory. These concepts facilitate the identification of strategies employed by teachers during the process of adaptation to new professional circumstances, as well as searching for one’s identity and for new ways to fulfill professional tasks.

The observation of everyday school life and the analysis of the literature on the subject provide evidence on educators’ submission to temporal dictatorship and its choice as the dominant time management strategy.

- Author(s):Wanda Maria Dróżka
- Language:Polish
- Subject(s):Education, Pedagogy
- Page Range:86-106
- No. of Pages:21
- Keywords:teacher; reflexivity; teacher education; open professionalism
- Summary/Abstract:The text discusses the subject of the reflexivity in the teaching profession. The theme stems from the belief that new educational contexts such as the technological and information revolution and globalization are fundamentally changing the role of the teacher and his/her professional competence. Volatility, fluidity, uncertainty as characteristics of modern civilization mean that the teaching profession is now perceived in a reflective and interdependent perspective. This approach is facilitated by the category of open professionalism developed in literature, in which reflexivity can be talked about as a multidimensional and open space of “becoming” a teacher, his/her education and further development.

- No. of Pages:12
- Keywords:education; technology; teacher; webgeneration; transformation
- Summary/Abstract:Changes in the conditions for the functioning of the school and the transfer of many educational activities to the digital space make us think about the role of the teacher in modern schools and their competences. The text presents some consequences of the digitization of phenomena, processes and objects. It also points out that the dynamics of the observed exchange changes, which in turn raises the question of how to adapt education to these changes and what actions should be taken in order to equip a generation with indigenous people with enough information competences to find themselves in a world saturated with technology. The article also highlights the emergence of an interesting opposition of views in the community of fans regarding the technology of the didactic process. On the one hand, we have ardent supporters of using ICT tools at school, who see them as a remedy for the difficulties plaguing modern education. On the other hand, we also have sceptics who think that information and communication technologies not only fail to solve educational problems, but fail to solve a potential source of challenges. However, in this matter a dialogue is necessary, every new situation around the school requires cooperation of the parties involved. And although the Dutch text addresses some of the risks associated with the presence of technology in our everyday life, we cannot forget about the potential of cybernetic tools, thanks to which it can create new spaces of education with students.

Teachers’ attitudes and their interventions also mediate the effectiveness of the antibullying programs. The subject of the text is to analyze the sense of self-efficacy as a factor determining teacher’s behavior in a situation of bullying among students. It turns out that both low self-efficacy in intervening in peer violence and too high certainty seem to be related to the ineffectiveness of actions limiting the problem of violence at school.

(A textbook in early school education – support or limitation?)
- Author(s):Aleksandra Szyller
- Language:Polish
- Subject(s):Education, Pedagogy
- Page Range:135-148
- No. of Pages:14
- Keywords:textbook; constructivism; behaviourism; transmission; personal knowledge; school knowledge
- Summary/Abstract:This article presents some of the results of our own research. Constructivist assumptions on the learning process’s specifics were juxtaposed with the analysis of students’ opinions about the content of educational packages, their substantive evaluation, and the description of children’s everyday experiences of working with a textbook, situated in traditional pedagogy. As it turns out, everyday work with an educational package seems to violate the basic assumptions behind modern learning theories, thus bringing education closer to the old behaviourist, transmissive, monologue tradition, created for the bygone world’s needs.

- Language:Polish
- Subject(s):Education, Pedagogy
- Page Range:149-166
- No. of Pages:18
- Keywords:educational policy; teaching curriculum; core curriculum; key competences; language education; educational change
- Summary/Abstract:The article covers the analysis of the provisions concerning language education in the three successive core curricula, introduced in Poland in 1999, 2008, and 2017, and the discrepancies between them regarding the structure of the area, the goals and content of education, and the degree of independence left to teachers in creating their own curricula, selection of content and methods, and organization of the teaching process. These successive structural and curriculum reforms too often widen the area of uncertainty in the teacher’s work, which due to the pace of these changes, cannot be fully assimilated in terms of their basic assumptions and introduced into current teaching work.

The nine-month workshops for high school students were a great example of pedagogical and theatrical work in conditions of permanent uncertainty. In theatre pedagogy, uncertainty is treated as a creative stimulus, encouraging participants to search for unconventional solutions, to experiment and reach for new forms of action. The inspiration for the project was both the idea of art education as well as Augusto Boal’s theatre practice.

- Keywords:boredom; negation; culture of work; students’ experience
- Summary/Abstract:Boredom is the phenomenon accompanying the practice of school work. Unfortunately, it is often not accompanied by teachers’ professional reflection. Widely, boredom is considered an undesirable part of the school’s working environment. Teachers participating in the research on this subject sometimes denied that boredom could be observed in their classes. Thus, boredom is an area of teacher insecurity. Educators and teachers tend to perceive it through the individual and personal judgment and experience, while disregarding the real experience of their students.
