Summary/Abstract: This paper analyzes the stories by Hamza Humo – written and published before publishing his Grozdanin kikot (Grozdana’s Giggle, 1927) – which are recognizable by the elements of a typically Expressionist exaggeratedinner experience to obtain intense emotional expression, in his case, of the nature of Herzegovina. The paper will focus on the following stories: Njihalo (1923), U čaršiji (1923), Babanova beda (1923), Sevdalijina ljubav (1925), Džigit (1926), Policajac broj 37 (1926) and Kaja (1926) (in Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian). Taking into account the thematic center and the central motifs of each of the stories, we will try to analyze the symbolic values of the landscape, and explore how much the natural environment function sonly as a space and décor of the development of a story’s plot, as well ashow much it functions as a symbolic reflection on the suffering of the one, on the one hand, or, it is a symbolic reflection on the ever-present joy of Paneroticism, on the other hand.
