Summary/Abstract: The present paper examines the Oriental poetics in one of the short stories by Aline Réveillaud de Lens (1881–1925), a French painter and writer living in Tunisia and Morocco at the beginning of the 20th century. It shows that Réveillaud de Lens imitated the oriental poetics so successfully that it could make her readers believe they were reading a translation of classical Oriental poetry. The means she used to achieve this quality of imitation are presented in three parts of the paper. The first one focuses on the subject matter and form of the short story, the second – on its protagonists, and the last one – on the language used by the author.
