Husserl as a philosopher of the Enlightenment

Summary/Abstract: This paper outlines a form of Enlightenment philosophy as envisioned by Husserl. Although Husserl did not explicitly align himself with the Enlightenment as an historical epoch, it is my claim here that he did carry out an Enlightenment philosophy as a concrete research project, following from his phenomenology, which is understood here as a strong version of transcendental idealism. This interpretation spells out the ramifications for Husserl’s view of the lifeworld and subjects living in it. Husserl, in his way, carries on the project of modernity as an »unfinished project« (Habermas) and is, hence, of timely relevance far contemporary philosophy after the collapse of postmodernism.
