Summary/Abstract: This article is devoted to the development of the space of light and darkness in M.A. Bulgakov’s novel «The Master and Margarita». The author explores the different stages and artistic devices of Bulgakov’s work on these images in the context of the creative history of the novel. The article, based on an extensive archival research in the Manuscript Collection of Russian State Library, follows the development of the space of light and darkness through a textual analysis of the whole corpus of manuscripts of this novel.
