Summary/Abstract: The aim of this conference paper is the interpretation of Jan Balabán’s literary work through the lens of literary anthropology using sociological theories focused on the evolution of the society in postmodern period (A. Giddens, Z. Bauman). The attention is focused on the family as a value and metaphor of (broken) order, its members and relationships between them. Characters offathers, mothers and siblings are studied based on their symbolical meanings and based on how Balabán’s literary work supports them or on the contrary, calls into question. To this sincere communication and (self)-reflection of one’s own life or family history which would lead to possible reconciliation.
