Summary/Abstract: In the course books in other countries like Austria, the same pieces by 20th century composers can be found. Now I am going to present interesting pieces by contemporary Hungarian composers. In the books, only two similar pieces can be found. These are Sándor Szokolay’s Alliterációk and Györgyí Kurtág’s Games For Piano. Every book contains significant composers and pieces. For the teachers, this provides a wide choice of pieces for students to listen to.The new course books for the 7th graders introduce more new contemporary composers and pieces than previous books did. The methods that are applied are various. These books also contain more creative tasks. The students have many opportunities to hear and enjoy contemporary music in Szeged. Today there are lots of new pieces for children such as Peter Tóth’s Agyelus Prince. It is fun activity for the young to take part in the Youth Singing Festival or in the Fairy Music Tale.
